Food, Photos and Links for You

Hello friends!
I hope you are moving in to 2011 with
peace, passion, poetry,
light, love, and laughter.
Here are some web links that I'd like to share. Happy Reading!

The holiday season is loaded with all my favorite foods. A bountiful recipe of indulgence mixed with guilt and baked to a bubbly golden brown. One of my favorite meals was a few weeks ago at my friend's co-op in Sacramento. The vegan feast featured delicious Indian spices in a red bean dal, cashew rice dish and roasted carrots. While I am not vegetarian, I do try to eat less processed and local foods. Especially, ground beef! This "meat" is a freaky mixture of scraps and fat trimmings that is exposed to ammonia gas (to kill bacteria), flash frozen and compressed. For those of you who are interested, here is a slideshow of 12 things you should never put in your mouth. I thought the whole can chicken was the worst!

Here are some pictures I took in Washington State while visiting a great friend and teacher. The northwest is truly an inspiring place. These shots were taken on our road trip to Cape Flattery. Julia writes beautifully about the magic we found.

Got inspiring photos to share? I came across an awesome site the other day called PhotoPhilanthropy. The org offers great resources including: Get the Word Out, Camera Exchange, Photography Grants, Photo Essay Awards and Tips and Artist Workshops. Their mission is to promote and connect photographers with non-profit organizations around the world to tell the stories that drive action for social change. You can connect with them on facebook, twitter or sign up for email notifications on their website or blog. I recommend to start by clicking on the Community tab. You can browse opportunities by region and connect with non-profits in your area. A picture is worth a thousand words and are great tools for non-profits to use in fundraising or outreach.
